WEST Devon sportswoman and transplant patient Wendy Sincock took part in a daring challenge, when she abseiled down a 220ft waterfall last month.
Wendy, from Spreyton, took on the challenge to raise money for Kidney Research UK.
The event was held at Canonteign Falls, near Christow, on Saturday, March 27.
A member of the Exeter and District Transplant team, Mrs Sincock has already won three gold medals and two silver medals at the 2009 British Transplant Games.
Wendy, 50, who had a kidney transplant ten years ago, said she took part in the competition to raise awareness for the constant need for organ donors.
She said: 'I have never ever done an abseil before and I only decided in the week to take on this new challenge.
'I swim regularly in Okehampton, so I felt I would be fit enough for this challenge.
'My husband and sister came with me to the falls and it took us 45 minutes to walk to the top — which in itself was tiring, but also with magnificent scenery.
'I wore my wet suit and other protective clothing — it was such a long way up I almost chickened out , but in the few days I got some sponsorship, I couldn't let those kind people down.'
Wendy also had support from another transplant patient from the Exeter unit, as well as the Plymouth transplant team manager.
She added: 'The decent was hard, cold, wet and very scary.
'I lost my breath so many times because the water was like a torrent throwing me against the rocks, like a weak spider on its web.
'I am positive that on the day I was the most unprofessional and also the funniest to watch, but I did it and got the T-shirt and the bruises to show for it!
'As a kidney transplant patient I will do most things to promote organ donation and this was certainly a big challenge!'
This year Wendy will be entering the Transplant Games 2010.
The aim of the games is to encourage transplant patients to regain fitness, and to promote friendship and co-operation between individuals concerned with transplantation, while increasing public awareness of the value of organ donation.
The Transplant Games 2010 will be held in Bath from Thursday, August 19 to Sunday, August 22.
