TWO young boys from Callington showed determination when they walked five miles in the snow to raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake.
Leighton Howe, 5, and his brother, Ethan, 7, walked from Callington to Gunnislake last Sunday to raise money for the Haiti Appeal.
The boys, pupils at Delaware Primary School, and their father, Craig, walked from Ginsters to their grandparents' house in Woodland Way, Gunnislake, and raised more than £300 from sponsorship.
Leighton's mother Marie said they had a great time, despite the snow: 'They really enjoyed doing it. They had to walk through the snow — it was like a blizzard at one point. It took them two hours but they loved it.'
The idea for the sponsored walk came from Leighton, who has asthma and is registered disabled as he suffers from verbal dyspraxia.
Mrs Howe said: 'It was Leighton's idea. He'd seen stuff about Haiti on the television and his school has been doing things to raise money for ShelterBox, so he wanted to do something.
'He wanted to walk all the way to Tavistock — it would have been a bit too far.'
Leighton raised £355 from being sponsored by family and friends and received a £50 donation from Ginsters.
Mrs Howe said: 'We're very proud of them, they did so well. We'll be sending the money off this week, which disappointed Leighton — he thought he would be taking the money to Haiti himself!
'We want to say a big thank you to our family and friends and to everyone who sponsored Leighton.'
