Tavistock at Christmas is a truly special place to be. From Dickensian Evening to the Christmas Tree Festival plus a host of markets and events, this Christmas it’s all about being local.

Tavistock’s Dickensian Evening is the most anticipated evening of the year - a magical late-night shopping event that transports you back in time. From 5pm on December 6, the streets fill with crowds coming to enjoy the sights and sounds of an old-fashioned, traditional Christmas experience.

2024 will kick off with a Lantern Parade around the town centre with the Christmas lights formally switched on at 5:45pm.

Shoppers can experience Christmas under our beautiful lights and win a number of fantastic prizes from local businesses for doing so. Sounds pretty good to us! Amid the cost-of-living crisis and people turning to the internet more readily for their gift and everyday purchases, the message here in Tavistock is simply that the True Spirit of Christmas is not found online but right here in your town centre. Here you can enjoy a festive shopping experience like no other, one you can’t find with the click of a mouse!

Here are some reasons why shopping locally is where it is at this festive season:

  • It is sustainable – local products mean less air miles!
  • Supporting local businesses helps them support other local businesses and keeps the money in the local economy supporting local jobs.
  • Shopping online doesn’t necessarily save you money.
  • You can get most of what you need right here in the town centre.
  • It’s a festive experience that is fun and is real

Taking part could earn you one of three lovely prizes – a meal for four at Taylors Bistro, an Air Fryer from Towl’s of Tavistock and a local produce hamper. For full details / terms & conditions see www.visit-tavistock.co.uk/spirit-of-christmas

Enjoy the full Tavistock experience – shopping under the Christmas lights, marvelling at the window displays and trees at the Christmas Tree Festival, taking a stroll by the Canal, then stopping for an early dinner or drinks with friends before heading home.
