TAVISTOCK Rotary Club held a successful Charity Golf Day at Tavistock Golf Club and they said it was the best of the TRC’s 15 golf days that they can remember.
As a result, Graham Parker the Rotary Club’s president, will be presenting a cheque for £4,000 to one of the area’s most valued charities – the Plymouth and District Leukaemia Fund. Since 1988, PDLF has raised more than £1,000,000 to support Derriford Hospital’s haematology unit. Based in Birch, Bracken, Brent and Burrator Wards, the unit has saved the lives of many people in Tavistock.
Presenting the winners with their prizes, Graham told the gathered golfers: ‘in 2016, we accepted a challenge to raise £10,000 over two years – that’s enough to buy five state-of-the-art chemotherapy pumps for Derriford. With the money raised by this brilliant day of golf, we have now provided all five pumps. What’s more, we are also presenting more than £1,200 to the Tavistock Triangle Centre.’
Supported by a range of local sponsors, 25 teams played in fine, sunny weather and produced excellent golf against the magnificent backdrop of Dartmoor’s tors .
The winning team members, Apps Angels, along with men’s champion Kieran Hancock and ladies’ champion Gail Reed, were presented with their prizes by golf club captain Rob Staniland.
Graham and Rob thanked the main sponsors the Whitchurch Inn, the Original Pasty House, Hansford Bell, Smokey Joes and many other local businesses who sponsored holes and prizes.
