ONE of the most competitive fixtures at Tavistock Golf Club is the annual battle between the ladies and men for the Callard Cup.
The first round — ladies versus men — was won by the ladies 5-2. The men took their revenge in the second round — men v ladies — with a win 4-1. An honourable draw was declared! For the first time since 1995 Tavistock won the silver division in the Warren Crocus event at Dawlish Warren. Wendy George and Belinda McSherry had an excellent score of 39 points to win the Warren Crocus silver salver.
The ladies’ Stableford was played in conjunction with the Allen Candlesticks.In division one, first was Lynn Swift 37 pts, second Belinda McSherry 35 pts on count back from Bridget Luckham.
Marion Stenhouse had 33pts in division two on count back from Pat Wylie and third was Jenny Roe 32pts. Pat Pope was first in division three with 37 pts, second Norma Thewlis 36 pts and in third Sue Bailey 31 pts.
Winners of the Candlesticks was Belinda McSherry and partner Nicky Gawman with a combined score of 68pts. In the ladies Foursomes Cup Maggie Hillman and Jennie Roe took the honours with a nett 71.5. Runners up were Helen Phipps and Ginny Samborne with nett 76.
The men veterans played for the Ken Kendall Trophy which was won this year by Rick Harrison with a nett 70; runner up was Rob Score with nett 71 on countback from Ken Cole.
